Abby Phipps2

     Abby Leigh Phipps, age 27, of Lamar, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

     Abby was born May 8, 1990, in Joplin, youngest of the three daughters of Jerry and Connie (Houston) Phipps.  She was a bright, happy, loving, five-year old tomboy when an automobile accident on July 1, 1995 took her sister, Julie’s life and left Abby and her father disabled.  Throughout her life, people were drawn in by Abby’s magnetic smile and infectious giggle and inspired by her determination and indomitable spirit.  A great day for Abby would include shopping, movies, music, and time spent with her nephews and nieces. She loved the color purple and collected monkeys. Abby enjoyed the fellowship of her Oakton United Methodist Church Family.

     In addition to her sister, Julie, Abby was preceded in death by her father, Jerry; grandparents, Leroy and Reba Phipps and Louise Houston; and great-grandmother, Velma Spain.

     Survivors include her mother and step-father, Connie and Doug Meister of the home; her sister, Heather (Dennis) Duncan, Lamar; three nieces, Britni (Brandon) Eaves, Bayli Duncan, and Bryli Duncan; nephew, Brantly Duncan; great-niece, Paityn Eaves; great-nephew, J.B. Eaves; grandfather, Bob Houston, Golden City; uncles and aunts, Patti Brooks, Lamar, Barbie (Stanton) Gardner, Golden City, Scott Houston, Greenfield, David (Amy) Houston, Carthage, Doug Houston, Springfield, Allen (Carolyn) Phipps, Kansas City, and Brenda (Bob) Rhodes, Lee’s Summit; two step-brothers C.J. (Tori) Meister, Lance (Miranda) Meister; step-sister Karle Meister; numerous cousins, and countless friends.

     A celebration of Abby’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12th, at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

     Abby’s family requests memorial contributions be made to Daniel Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

I had the pleasure of being a substitute teacher for Abby in co-op and she made a great impact on my life. Her smile was infectious and she had a great sense of humor! May her light she in heaven as bright as it did here.
